Annexations, New Police Guidelines for License Plate Readers Pass Council
July 2025: council annexed 20+ acres, rezoned two sites, and let Woodruff Police write a policy for license plate readers, to be used for alerts only.
At its July 2025 meeting, Woodruff City Council approved more than 20 acres of annexations: about three acres on Phillips Lane (Planned Development), almost six acres on Angells Drive and more than 11 acres on Varner Street (both R-2 Residential). Council also rezoned about an acre on N. Pearson Street from R-1 to R-2 so the lot can be subdivided, and just over four acres at Highway 101 and Old Orchard Road to C-3 General Commercial. Each zoning matched the surrounding area.
Police Chief Greg Ryan asked for, and received, approval to write guidelines for automatic license plate readers. The planned system connects to national alert networks to flag stolen vehicles, missing persons and wanted fugitives entering the city. Chief Ryan said it would be used for alerts only, not for speeding or other enforcement.
Council meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
