How to Run for Woodruff City Council (2025 Guide)

Requirements for running for Woodruff City Council, as published for the 2025 Ward 2, 4 and 6 races: residency, eligibility, a $25 fee paid at City Hall, and filing at the county elections office.

The Woodruff Times published a candidate guide on August 9, 2025 for that year's Woodruff City Council races in Wards 2, 4 and 6. The 2025 filing period and election have passed. We summarize the guide here because the steps are a useful reference for future races. Confirm current dates and rules with the county elections office before you file.

Eligibility: According to the guide, a candidate must be registered to vote in Spartanburg County when filing. They must live inside Woodruff city limits and inside the ward they want to represent, with residency established at least 30 days before the election. They must be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and not be in default to the city, for example through unpaid taxes or fees.

How to file: Complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy (SIC) form. Pay the $25 filing fee at Woodruff City Hall first. Then file with the Spartanburg County Board of Voter Registration and Elections at 366 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, (864) 596-2549. Woodruff municipal filings are handled by the county office, not City Hall.

2025 dates, for reference: Filing ran from noon August 1 to noon August 15, 2025, and Election Day was November 4, 2025.

The original article also links a council ward map (PDF) so residents can check which ward they live in.

This is our own summary of a guide published by The Woodruff Times. Read it, and see the ward map, at the source link.
