SCDOT Proposes Replacing Enoree River Bridge, Seeks Public Input Through Oct. 30

SCDOT plans to rebuild the Enoree River crossing between Beaverdam Church Road and Kilgore Bridge Road, lost after Hurricane Helene, with construction penciled in for early 2028.

The Woodruff Times reported on October 15, 2026 that the South Carolina Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the Enoree River bridge at the Laurens-Spartanburg county line. Here is our summary.

The bridge carried S-112 (Beaverdam Church Road in Laurens County) and S-116 (Kilgore Bridge Road in Spartanburg County). It was already due for repairs when Hurricane Helene hit in fall 2024. SCDOT says the storm left it structurally unstable, so it was torn down, and the road has stayed closed since. In spring 2025 the agency asked the public whether to rebuild or close the crossing for good. The current plan is to rebuild on or near the old alignment.

SCDOT's preliminary schedule has right-of-way work starting in early 2027 and about 12 months of construction starting in early 2028. The agency calls those dates estimates and says updates will be posted on its project page, where residents can also follow the project by email. The public comment window ran from October 1 through October 30, 2026.
