City Council Rezones the Church of God Property and Fills Two Planning Commission Seats
Woodruff City Council rezoned about 38 acres at the Woodruff Church of God on Highway 101 to match how the land is used, and appointed Shareece Norman and Casey Bowen to the Planning Commission.
The Woodruff Times reported on November 4, 2026 on the City Council's October meeting. Here is our summary.
Council approved rezoning about 38 acres on Highway 101, where the Woodruff Church of God sits, from industrial to mixed employment. Assistant City Manager Brandon McMahan told council the request was made to match how the site is actually used, and that there is no plan for any development there. Council members Allen Durham and Buddy Arnold recused themselves from the vote.
Council also unanimously appointed Shareece Norman and Casey Bowen to two open Planning Commission seats, replacing Terry Leake and Laura Lee. It authorized City Manager Lee Bailey to negotiate development agreements for two projects still known by code names: Project Abney, a multi-family development, and Project Redbird, a hospitality development.
Bailey said the independent auditors will present their annual report at the November meeting, and that BMW has scheduled the grand opening of its new battery plant for November 13. Council meets the last Tuesday of each month at City Hall, open to the public. The next meeting is November 24.
