City Council Approves Beginning Stages of Potential 150-Acre Housing Development
Council gave first reading to annex and zone nearly 150 acres near Highway 221 and Old Spartanburg Highway for a subdivision of up to 300 half-acre lots. It also moved a 23-acre annexation and a dental-office rezoning.
The Woodruff Times reports that Woodruff City Council approved first readings in May 2025 on several items tied to a possible housing development near Highway 221 and Old Spartanburg Highway.
According to the paper, an unnamed developer was buying lots totaling nearly 150 acres, and the owners asked that they be annexed into the city and zoned R-2 Single Family Residential. City Manager Lee Bailey said the subdivision could include up to 300 half-acre lots, with entrances off Highway 221, Old Spartanburg Highway and Chestnut Drive. The plan was in early stages, with no construction date, and was headed to the planning commission before final council votes.
Council also gave first reading to annexing 23 acres at Highway 101 and Old Orchard Road (no development plans yet) and to rezoning a nearly 2-acre parcel at 601 East Georgia from R-1 to C-1 so new owners could reopen the former Woodruff Family Dentistry building as a dental practice.
Bailey also announced the 2025 McKinney Park summer concert lineup, including Nikki Lane on June 7, The Tams and The Vinyl Junkies, closing with the Parris Island Marine Band and fireworks on June 27. The full story is at The Woodruff Times.
