Woodruff PD to Start Tactical Unit, City Hires Disaster Relief Company
Council approved a Woodruff Police tactical unit for high-risk warrants and hired Goodwyn Mills Cawood to manage FEMA Hurricane Helene funds.
City Council approved two resolutions that let the Woodruff Police Department form its own tactical unit for serving high-risk warrants, so it relies less on other agencies. The first set the policy and procedures for these operations. The second created the unit, which will be staffed from existing officers and trained by outside experts. Chief Greg Ryan presented the plan.
Council also hired Goodwyn Mills Cawood to help the city apply for and properly use FEMA disaster funds for Hurricane Helene damage; City Manager Lee Bailey said FEMA reimburses that cost. It passed first reading of updated flood-damage prevention rules.
Bailey also reported that paving had started on a new parking lot behind Arthur State Bank on Main Street, which adds more than 50 spaces. He said SCDOT was making repairs to improve access to businesses on Main Street.
