Council Passes $6.1 Million 2024-25 Budget: One More Officer, New Park Playground, No Tax Increase
Woodruff City Council unanimously gave final approval to a roughly $6.1 million general fund budget for 2024-25. It adds a police officer, buys new McKinney Park playground equipment and raises the trash fee by $3, with no tax increase.
The Woodruff Times reported on July 19, 2024 that City Council unanimously gave final approval to the 2024-25 general fund budget of about $6.1 million.
City Manager Lee Bailey described it as a conservative budget that adds what departments need without a tax increase. It funds one more police officer, with equipment and a vehicle, and new playground equipment for McKinney Park. It also buys equipment for the street department and makes capital investments in the sewer department. The residential trash service fee goes up $3, and city employees get a 3% cost-of-living raise.
Council also gave first-reading approval to two annexations. One was a 10-foot strip along 2.53 acres on Cavins Road, which lets the city connect another property. The other was 85.7 acres on East Georgia Road, including the old junkyard, with R-2 single-family zoning requested. Staff said the owners have no current development plans. Both were set to return for second reading.
