Inside Libertas Academy: Woodruff's New Charter School Prepares to Welcome Students
A July walkthrough of Libertas Academy Woodruff before its Aug. 6 opening: 4K–6th grade, classical curriculum, daily PE, special-education services and community bus stops.
Ahead of its Aug. 6, 2026 opening, The Woodruff Times toured Libertas Academy Woodruff with School Director Celina Patton and Principal Samantha Wood. The tuition-free public charter school opened serving 4K through sixth grade and plans to add seventh and eighth grades over the next two years.
The school uses a classical model with Eureka Math and the Core Virtues character program. Students have PE every day, alternating art and music classes (including pottery with an on-site kiln) and daily recess. The school provides special-education services with certified teachers and a speech therapist. Five 4K classrooms were built with SC First Steps as a partner, and the story reported a 4K waiting list.
The school does not run neighborhood bus routes. Instead, a bus serves designated community stops. Breakfast and lunch are provided by Chartwells, with free and reduced-price meals for families who qualify, and after-school care runs until 6 p.m. A City of Woodruff school resource officer is assigned to the campus. The story reported about 1,200 applications, with enrollment first-come, first-served by grade. For current enrollment, check the school's own site.
