WHS Graduate Ashley Moorman Returns Home to Teach 4K at Libertas Academy
Woodruff High and Lander University graduate Ashley Moorman is back in her hometown as a 4K teacher at Libertas Academy of Woodruff. She also runs a tutoring service in math, reading, science and social studies.
The Woodruff Times profiled Ashley Moorman on July 30, 2026, as she returned to Woodruff to teach 4K at Libertas Academy of Woodruff, the city's new public charter school.
Background: Moorman is a Woodruff High School graduate and earned her degree at Lander University in interdisciplinary studies focused on teaching diverse elementary students. She credits her late mother, also a teacher, and several Woodruff Elementary teachers with inspiring her career.
Experience: She is entering her fourth year as a certified teacher, after three years as a reading interventionist. She has taught 4K, first and second grade, and worked with students from age 3 to 18. Before teaching, she was a camp counselor and later a camp director.
Tutoring: Moorman also owns a tutoring service covering math, reading, science and social studies. Parents fill out a questionnaire about their child's strengths and needs first, so she can build a personalized plan. She told the paper that tutoring is not only for struggling students: it can also challenge advanced learners and help with test preparation. She says she was helped by community tutors and an after-school program when she was growing up.
Her approach: She tries to learn how each student thinks and what motivates them. She breaks lessons into smaller steps and uses games and hands-on activities. She treats mistakes as part of learning and sees education as a partnership between teachers, parents and the community.
