Resident Challenges City Annexation Process
A resident told council she had reported a 10-foot-strip annexation to state investigators. Council then zoned 205 acres on Highway 221 and 53 acres on Miller Road single-family residential.
At the April 28 council meeting, a resident said she had reported the city's 10-foot-strip annexation near Cross Anchor and Miller roads to state investigators, alleging problems with the owner approvals on the petition. Because she spoke during public comment, council could not respond on the record. City Manager Lee Bailey said she had already shared her concerns with city officials.
Council went on to zone the 205-acre Highway 221 parcel and a 53-acre Miller Road parcel single-family residential.
In his update, Bailey said permits were finalized for a Dunkin' and a Domino's next to the Handee Mart on Main Street, replacing the self-service car wash. He also said Ingles now owns the former Bi-Lo property and is trying to redevelop the plaza, though no project is in the works yet.
