Council Advances Annexation of Nearly 175 Acres Near Fortenberry and Peanut Roads
Woodruff City Council approved first readings to annex and zone nearly 175 acres just north of town: about 144 acres off Fortenberry Road for housing, and about 30.5 acres on Highway 221 near Peanut Road for a mixed commercial and residential planned development.
The Woodruff Times reported on October 26, 2024 that City Council approved first readings to annex and zone nearly 175 acres north of town for two developments.
The first is just under 144 acres of parcels along Fortenberry Road near Peanut Road. It is expected to become a housing development, with R-2 single-family zoning requested. Staff said no subdivision plans had been submitted yet. The second is about 30.5 acres with frontage on Highway 221 near Peanut Road. It is zoned as a Planned Development, with commercial on the highway and residential behind it.
Council also gave second reading to rezone 14 acres on Poole Street Extension to R-3 multi-family and adopted solid-waste ordinance amendments that write down procedures the city already follows. It reapproved police policies after Chief Greg Ryan presented the state's routine annual revisions. City Manager Lee Bailey said the annual audit was finished and that new McKinney Park playground equipment had been chosen, with construction expected after the new year.
