Council Completes Highway 101 Annexations for New Homes; Inaugural St. Patrick's Day Draws 600+
Council gave final approval to annex and zone just under 35 acres at Highway 101 and Hart Road for single-family homes, and rezoned a former dentist office on S.J. Workman Highway back to commercial. Staff said the first St. Patrick's Day event drew more than 600 people.
The Woodruff Times reported on April 27, 2024 on a brief City Council agenda.
Council approved the second reading of ordinances to annex and zone two parcels at Highway 101 and Hart Road, just under 35 acres, as R-2 single family for a new housing development. Assistant City Manager Brandon McMahan said nothing had changed since first reading.
Council also gave second-reading approval to rezone a 0.8-acre parcel at 7 S.J. Workman Highway from R-3 multi-family to C-1 neighborhood commercial. The building had been a dentist office and was zoned residential after it closed; the new owner plans to open a dentist office there again. A resolution declared April Fair Housing Month, an annual awareness effort tied to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs.
In reports, McMahan said the city's first St. Patrick's Day event brought more than 600 people downtown. Mayor Kenneth Gist added that several business owners told him sales were up during the event.
