Apr 2022: Council Annexes Land for About 270 Homes Near Varner Road and Buys a Track Loader with ARPA Funds

Council annexed nearly 130 acres near Highway 221 and Varner Road for two subdivisions (about 162 and 110 lots), added 32 acres to the Snowmill Road development, zoned 125+ acres on Fountain Inn Road industrial, and bought a track loader with relief funds.

The Woodruff Times reported on April 16, 2022 on the Woodruff City Council's latest meeting.

New housing on the south end: Council approved requests from a Greenville development company to annex and zone parcels near Highway 221 and Varner Road for two subdivisions: about 49 acres for a projected 162 lots and just over 48 acres for about 110 lots.

Snowmill Road: A further 32 acres on Snowmill Road were annexed as planned development and added to an earlier-approved project, with commercial and retail facing Cross Anchor Road and homes behind it along Snowmill Road.

Industrial zoning: The owner of more than 125 acres on Fountain Inn Road near Highway 101 received annexation with I-2 industrial zoning. City Manager Lee Bailey said no development plan had been filed yet and that the zoning matches the city's map for that area.

First reading: Council also gave first reading to annexing just over 44 acres on Highway 101, south of and across from Woodruff Chevrolet, as planned development, with commercial along the highway and townhomes behind.

Equipment: A resolution approved buying a Cat track loader for several city departments using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money. Bailey said the city had been renting this kind of equipment. Council also adopted the Municipal Association's statewide plan for how cities may claim revenue loss under ARPA.
