November 2021 Ballot: Seven Candidates for Five School Board Seats, Three Council Members Unopposed

Ahead of the November 2, 2021 election, seven candidates were running for five at-large seats on the District Four school board, with at least three new trustees guaranteed. Council members in districts 2, 4 and 6 ran unopposed.

The Woodruff Times published a voter guide on October 14, 2021 ahead of the November 2 election.

Five seats on the Spartanburg County School District Four Board of Trustees were on the ballot, with seven candidates. Chairman Melvin Brewton and trustees Joni Phillips and Chris Bennet did not seek re-election, so the board was guaranteed at least three new members. Incumbents Tony Davis and Charles Hembree ran again, alongside Ted Harrison Jr., Gary Lee, Jay Phillips, David Sawyer and Morgan Smith.

District Four trustees are elected at large, not by area, and serve four-year terms. To qualify, a candidate must be at least 18, live in the district and file a petition signed by 120 verified district voters by July 15.

Several candidates named growth, crowded schools and facilities, including a new high school, as top issues.

On Woodruff City Council, the seats for districts 2, 4 and 6 were up. Incumbents Toni Sloan, Scott Dickard and Allen Durham were unopposed and kept their seats.
