Housing Report: About 500 Homes Built or Approved in Woodruff as Growth Continues
A new SC REALTORS report puts Spartanburg County's housing-related output at about $4.2 billion and 15,165 jobs. City Manager Lee Bailey told The Woodruff Times about 500 housing units have been built or approved in Woodruff in recent years.
The Woodruff Times reported on June 28, 2026 on a new economic impact report from South Carolina REALTORS, prepared by University of South Carolina research economist Dr. Joseph Von Nessen.
Statewide: The report estimates the housing industry generates about $77.5 billion in annual economic activity, supports 278,745 jobs and provides $12.7 billion in labor income, nearly 20 percent of the state economy. It ties that demand to South Carolina's fast population growth through the 2020s.
District 4: The 4th Congressional District, which covers much of Greenville and Spartanburg counties, accounts for about $12.9 billion in housing-related output, 46,537 jobs and more than $2.1 billion in labor income.
Spartanburg County: About $4.2 billion in output, 15,165 jobs and nearly $689 million in labor income.
In Woodruff: City Manager Lee Bailey told the paper that roughly 500 housing units have been built or approved in recent years. He said residential growth has brought new investment, more customers for local restaurants, shops and services, and improvements to parks, recreation and infrastructure. The paper connects the growth to commercial investment, downtown revitalization and planned projects such as the Riverbend Athletic Complex.
The report also notes that housing affordability and availability remain under discussion by state and local leaders.
