Jan 2024: City Earns a Clean Audit and Council Approves a New Downtown Parking Lot

The Woodruff Times reported that the city received an unmodified audit opinion with a fund balance above $4.4 million, and council unanimously approved a nearly $150,000 contract to pave a vacant lot behind Arthur State Bank on Main Street for public parking.

The Woodruff Times reported on January 2, 2024 on the Woodruff City Council's most recent meeting.

Clean audit: The city's independent auditor, Matt Phillips, CPA, presented results showing an unmodified opinion, which he called the best result a city can receive. According to the report, the city holds a positive fund balance of more than $4.4 million and a strong net position in both its government-wide and fund-level statements.

Downtown parking: Council voted unanimously to approve a contract of nearly $150,000 to grade, pave and stripe a vacant lot behind Arthur State Bank on Main Street. City Manager Lee Bailey indicated the lot would provide public parking as downtown development continues.

Other business: Council passed second reading of the annexation and zoning of a 1.65-acre parcel at 210 Snowmill Road, and adopted its 2024 meeting schedule, the last Tuesday of each month except December.

The article also noted the re-election of Mayor Kenneth Gist and council members William "Buddy" Arnold, Sharon Kelley and Mattie Norman, and the approval of Toni Sloan as Mayor Pro Tem.
