New Census Bureau estimates put Woodruff at the top of South Carolina's growth list: up 16.8%, or 868 residents, from July 2024 to July 2025.
The Post and Courier reports that Woodruff grew faster than any other South Carolina city or town with more than 5,000 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, according to new U.S. Census Bureau population estimates. The paper puts Woodruff's growth at 16.8 percent, or 868 new residents. That narrowly beat Hardeeville, which added more people but from a population nearly three times larger.
Three other Upstate communities made the state's top 10: Greer at No. 7, Fountain Inn at No. 9 and Mauldin at No. 10. The story points to Woodruff's location near I-26 and I-385 and to nearly $1 billion in announced industrial investment, including the BMW electric-vehicle battery plant and the Airsys headquarters. It also notes that the new Woodruff High School roughly doubles the capacity of the old one.
