2022: Scoops On Main Opens an Ice Cream Parlor Downtown
In April 2022 the Post and Courier reported that Scoops On Main had opened at 222 S. Main St., in the former Gaither Ray's on Main, with 36 flavors served in warm dipped waffle cones.
In April 2022, the Post and Courier's Asia Rollins reported on a new ice cream parlor in downtown Woodruff.
Scoops On Main opened on April 8, 2022, at 222 S. Main St., the space that had been Gaither Ray's on Main. At the time it offered 36 flavors in warm, dipped waffle cones, plus milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits. The building got a renovated commercial kitchen and bathrooms, new floors and walls, and new lighting out front.
The shop was owned by Jake Evatt and his father, Johnathan. The paper said Jake, then 21 and a recent Western Carolina University business graduate, first looked at buying a franchise before deciding to start his own shop. He chose Woodruff because the city was working to revitalize downtown and was expected to grow. "I want to be involved with the community and show them that I truly care for them outside of coming to get ice cream," he told the paper. He also hoped to open in other small towns and serve at college campuses and big events.
