The Woodruff Times previews Friday's region game at Varner Stadium: both teams are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in region play, and it is Woodruff's senior night.
The Woodruff Times published a preview on October 7, 2026 of Woodruff's home region game against Southside Christian at Varner Stadium. Here is our summary.
The setting: It is senior night and Woodruff's last regular-season home game; its final three regular-season games are on the road. The article does not list a kickoff time.
The matchup: Both teams are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the region. Last week Woodruff beat Landrum 49-0 and Southside Christian beat Clinton 28-24. On the season, Woodruff has scored 237 points (39.5 per game) and allowed 133 (22.2 per game); Southside Christian has scored 110 (18.3 per game) and allowed 100 (16.7 per game).
The history: The teams have met twice. Woodruff won 28-27 in 2018 and Southside Christian won 37-10 in 2019, so the series is tied 1-1.
The coaches: Woodruff's Brett Sloan is in his fourth season and Southside Christian's Jonathan Gess is in his second. Sloan said every region game matters, the region is deep, and a win would put Woodruff in a strong spot. He wants balance between run and pass and quick passing to spread the ball, and called Southside Christian fundamentally sound and physical.
