Walmart Tops Woodruff Times Grocery Store Poll
In an informal Facebook poll on which grocery store readers most want in Woodruff, Walmart drew about half of 1,251 votes, ahead of ALDI and Publix. No retailer has committed to a Woodruff store.
The Woodruff Times asked readers on Facebook which grocery store they would most like to see come to Woodruff. As of Sept. 17, 2026, the post had 1,251 votes cast as reactions: Walmart 631 (about 50%), ALDI 389 (about 31%) and Publix 231 (about 18%). It also drew more than 570 comments and 99 shares.
The paper is clear that this was a voluntary social-media poll, not a scientific survey of the community, and that the results do not mean Walmart, ALDI or Publix has any plans for Woodruff.
According to the paper's summary of the comments, price, selection, accessibility and location came up most. Walmart supporters wanted a full-size store rather than a Neighborhood Market. ALDI supporters pointed to lower prices for families and people on fixed incomes. Publix supporters cited selection, buy-one-get-one deals and specialty foods such as gluten-free items, and several said they now drive to Greenville to shop there. Readers also raised other needs, including a hardware or home-improvement store and 24-hour urgent care. Suggested sites, including the former Bi-Lo property and Highway 101, were readers' ideas, not confirmed plans.
The Woodruff Times says it will compile the results and comments into a community-interest summary to share with prospective grocers and local economic-development representatives.
