Fresh Food for Everyone: Ruth's Gleanings Marks 10 Years

Spartanburg's Ruth's Gleanings turns ten, still rescuing surplus produce and selling affordable fresh-food boxes, with a SNAP discount.

The Woodruff Times (May 8, 2026) reports that Ruth's Gleanings, a Spartanburg organization founded in 2016, is celebrating ten years of making fresh, healthy food more accessible. Here is our summary.

Gleaning program: Volunteers collect fresh food that would otherwise be thrown away from sources such as farmers' markets, cafeterias and restaurants, then process it and pass it to partners like food banks and soup kitchens.

FoodShare boxes: Ruth's Gleanings partners with the Spartanburg branch of FoodShare South Carolina to buy and package local produce into boxes of 15 to 20 pounds, available every two weeks. A box costs $20 in cash or $5 with a SNAP card. Orders can be placed by phone at 864-586-2840, in person at 147 Chapel Street in Spartanburg, or at the front desk of the Thomas Hannah YMCA.

How to help: To volunteer, email volunteer@ruthsgleanings.com. Questions about donating food go to gleanings@ruthsgleanings.com.

The article gives no details about anniversary events. Confirm hours and ordering details with the organization.
