Woodruff First Baptist Hosts National Day of Prayer Gathering at McKinney Park
Woodruff First Baptist Church invited the whole community to an evening of prayer at McKinney Park on Thursday, May 7, at 6 p.m.
The Woodruff Times reported on April 23, 2026 that Woodruff First Baptist Church would host the local National Day of Prayer gathering at McKinney Park on Thursday, May 7, at 6 p.m. Here is our summary.
The National Day of Prayer falls on the first Thursday of May. Congress set it in 1952, and the tradition of a national call to prayer goes back to the Second Continental Congress in 1775.
The Woodruff gathering was open to the public, with guided prayer for the nation, local leaders and the community. "Our country needs prayer. Our leaders need prayer. Our city and state need prayer," said Rev. Derrick Scurry, chaplain for the City of Woodruff. Residents were asked to bring lawn chairs and come early.
