Women's History Month Spotlight: Beth Rentz Grant
A 1966 Woodruff High graduate, Beth Rentz Grant spent more than 20 years as a WHS guidance counselor and now coordinates volunteers at the Woodruff Area Soup Kitchen.
For Women's History Month 2026, The Woodruff Times profiled Beth Rentz Grant, a 1966 graduate of Woodruff High School.
According to the paper, Grant earned an elementary education degree from Limestone College in 1970 and taught in Mississippi and Florida, and taught GED classes to American servicemen in Korea, while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force. She later earned a master's in elementary school guidance from the University of South Carolina, taking night classes while teaching second grade. In 1982 she became a guidance counselor at Woodruff High, where she served for more than 20 years. She was known for an "open door policy" and said personal counseling was the most rewarding part of the job. She retired in 2003.
In 2011 Grant joined the board of the Woodruff Area Soup Kitchen and became its volunteer coordinator. The paper quotes her describing the kitchen's approach: "Anyone who is in need of a meal gets one, no questions asked." A former state-championship basketball player, she is also active in the Woodruff High School Athletic Alumni Association, whose scholarships for student-athletes are managed through the Spartanburg County Foundation. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Woodruff.
