Open Christmas Table Organizer Reflects on First-Year Gathering, Looks Ahead to Future Events

Woodruff's first Open Christmas Table shared a Christmas Day meal at MUSE 134; organizers plan to-go meals next year for those who prefer not to stay.

The Woodruff Times reports that Woodruff's first Open Christmas Table, a free shared meal on Christmas Day, was held at MUSE 134 in partnership with Stone Soup Storytelling.

Organizer Victoria Stanley told the paper that turnout was modest, but listening to the stories of the people around the table was the part she will remember most, and it confirmed why the gathering exists.

Her biggest lesson, she said, was that many people want connection but not everyone is comfortable sitting with strangers. So next year's plans are expected to add more to-go meals, letting neighbors receive a Christmas dinner and know they are remembered without any pressure to stay.

Stanley also hopes for more shared meals and fellowship gatherings in Woodruff during the year. The full interview, with her reflections on slowing down and listening to one another, is at The Woodruff Times.
