Duke Energy Upgrades Power Lines Across Woodruff

Duke Energy began upgrading and building overhead power lines in Woodruff in early 2025, from the new Woodruff High School on Highway 101 to the new BMW facility, to improve reliability and add capacity.

The Woodruff Times reported in February 2025 that Duke Energy was investing in Woodruff's electric grid to improve reliability, reduce outages and prepare for growth.

According to Duke Energy, as reported by the paper, the work involved upgrading or replacing existing overhead lines and building new ones to add capacity and smart-grid technology, and to make the system more resilient in severe weather. The improvements ran from the new Woodruff High School along Highway 101 to the new BMW facility, covering several miles of back roads in between.

The paper told residents to expect bucket trucks, digging and pole-setting equipment and large spools of line for several weeks, with some new or replacement poles. Crews would work along the power line easement, and some sections required access to backyards and private property.
