2021: School Board Votes to Reorganize Grades and Start the Path to a New Woodruff High
In September 2021 the District Four board unanimously backed a grade reorganization built around a new high school: grades 9–12 to a new building, 6–8 into the old high school, 4–5 into the old middle school. About 95 acres near Cross Anchor and Allendale roads were being bought.
The Woodruff Times reported on September 22, 2021 on the Spartanburg County School District Four Board of Trustees' September 13 meeting.
The board voted unanimously to let district officials begin reorganizing the grade structure around a new high school, so that each existing school would give up a grade and gain room for growth. Under the plan, grades PreK–1 stay at the primary school and grades 2–3 at the elementary school; grades 4–5 move to the current middle school, which becomes an intermediate school; grades 6–8 move into the current high school building as the middle school; and grades 9–12 move to a new high school.
Superintendent Dr. Rallie Liston said the vote showed the board's support for building the new school to keep up with growth. Facilities and Assistant Business Manager Clark Simpkins Jr. said the district had parcels near Cross Anchor Road and Allendale Road under contract and was finalizing others, about 95 acres in all. He said a referendum could go to voters by September 2022, with the school ready for the 2025-26 year. A district-owned property on Barnham Road, judged unsuitable for a school, was about to be sold, with proceeds going to the construction fund.
The board also heard a COVID-19 update: the district reported lower quarantine numbers than its neighbors and had resumed free rapid testing for students and family members in Woodruff.
