BMW Group Begins Building Construction at Plant Woodruff
BMW, City of Woodruff and Spartanburg County representatives signed the first steel beam on Oct. 5, 2023, as building construction began.
BMW Group reported in October 2023 that building construction had started at Plant Woodruff. Company leaders joined representatives from the City of Woodruff, Spartanburg County and Evans Construction on October 5 for a ceremonial beam signing, and workers installed that first beam right afterward.
In the release, BMW Manufacturing president Dr. Robert Engelhorn called it the day the company would "literally begin to build our legacy." BMW repeated that the plant, due to be completed in 2026, would supply sixth-generation batteries to nearby Plant Spartanburg and bring more than 300 jobs.
The release also restates the plant's size (more than one million square feet on 315 acres) and its supply chain, with cells coming from AESC in Florence, SC.
