Riverbend Athletic Complex: Summer 2027 Opening, City Says
In April 2026, the Municipal Association of SC featured Woodruff's 103-acre Riverbend Athletic Complex among the state's new sports parks. City Manager Lee Bailey said it will open in summer 2027 and serve both local youth and visiting tournaments.
The April 2026 issue of Uptown, the Municipal Association of South Carolina's magazine, looked at cities betting on athletic complexes, including Rock Hill, North Myrtle Beach and Darlington. Woodruff was the newest example.
According to the article, the Riverbend Athletic Complex will cover 103 acres with synthetic turf fields and is set to open in summer 2027. City Manager Lee Bailey described four full-size fields that can host baseball, soccer, softball, lacrosse and flag football. The plans also include lighted pickleball courts, a dog park, walking trails along the Enoree River, a kayak launch and a destination playground with picnic shelters.
Bailey said the complex is "about investing in the young people of our community." He said it is being built first for residents, and also to attract tournaments and regional events whose teams and families would support downtown businesses.
The complex broke ground on Oct. 8, 2025, alongside Libertas Academy Woodruff (see our groundbreaking story). The project has its own preview site at riverbendathleticcomplex.com.
