Helping Hands Ministries of Woodruff was started in 1991, when area ministers and their congregations came together to help neighbors who needed food or help with utility bills. Local churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals gave the start-up money, and the ministry has been at 206 Chamblin Street since 1992.
Today it runs a food pantry and a clothes closet, keeps supplies for babies, and offers referral help, with more than 30 regular volunteers. It serves residents of the Woodruff (Spartanburg District 4) area.
The ministry does not publish open hours online, so call ahead before you go. Its yearly fundraisers include a car show, a golf tournament and an annual banquet.
