On August 19, 1780, Patriot militia fought a larger Loyalist and British force here, near the Musgrove family's grist mill on the Enoree River. The South Carolina state park system now protects the site as a state historic site.
The 1.3-mile Battlefield Trail has signs that tell the story of the battle. The visitor center has exhibits. Horseshoe Falls, a small waterfall on Cedar Shoals Creek, is handicap accessible. The mill itself washed away in 1852, and a trail marker shows where it stood.
You can fish in the pond, the river and the creek with a valid state fishing license. There is a small canoe and kayak launch, but no camping. The Woodruff Times has pointed out that the site is closer than the bigger Upstate parks: about 18 miles from downtown Woodruff, 12 from Enoree and 5 from Cross Anchor.
